Doreen has always been fascinated with the learning process of each student, which prompted her to create a new method and system for coding musical concepts. The method has been proven to help students read and understand the music on the printed page. She recognizes and her method emphasizes the importance of visual aids in promoting a greater reinforcement of music concepts.
In January of 2001, Doreen was granted a U.S. Patent for this system which is also incorporated into her Piano Celebration Method Series (levels Primer, 1, 1A, and 6) and the "House Party" supplement series (Halloween, Hanukkah, Winter Season, and Pre-Reading Christmas). She has also composed and arranged "The International Dance Set" for 5 pianos in addition to 64+ arrangements for multiple pianos.
Her intention is that music be a very positive and joyful experience which students can take with them throughout their lives and to share and celebrate with family and friends. Her relationships with her students are lasting ones, with some studying for the pure joy of it, and others deciding to continue on a college level. They have been accepted by audition on scholarship to music colleges, and have won many state and regional playing awards and scholarships. Some have gone on to be wonderful teachers in their own right in private and in public education systems.
Doreen lives in Orange, Connecticut with husband, Attorney Tony Aiardo, pop / jazz pianist, composer & vocalist. They have a son Michael, and daughter, Gabrielle.
